The charming community of Seal Beach, California s is located less than 30
miles from Los Angeles. Originally known as Anaheim Landing, a port of entry
for the Santa Ana Valley and now an historical landmark, was founded in 1857.
The name was temporarily changed to Bay City at the turn of the 19th century.
On October 25, 1915 the city was incorporated and renamed Seal Beach
after the many seals that occupied the beaches.
A city once a haven for gambling parlors and roller coasters in the 1920's
is now a lovely, quiet seaside community with a beach suitable for swimming,
surfing, or strolling. Fish off California's second longest pier, shop or dine
on Main Street, and with annual events such as The Sand Castle Festival
and Kite Festival in September, The Classic Car Show in April,
The Lions Club Pancake Breakfast in April and their Fish Fry in July,
a Christmas Parade in December, makes for year around fun.
Leisure World - Seal Beach is located within
the perimeters of this quaint city. This Retirement Community is made
up of over 9,000 people, 6,608 units on 533 acres, and is approximately
40% of the voting population for the City of Seal Beach.
Also located within the confines of the city are the U.S. Naval Weapon Station,
the Red Car Museum and the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge.
